The Campus Media Base summer soccer school came into being with the objective and aspirations of the Media Base Sports family of trainers and players to transmit their know-how, passion and values to younger players. The football itself was the key to this first Campus featuring some of our most prestigious professionals, such as Luis Suárez, not to mention several of the stars who made history at Wembley with FC Barcelona 25 years ago, where they won their first Champions League title, as Pep Guardiola.
The setting chosen for the 1st Campus Media Base was second-to-none: the Montanyà, which is the exact venue chosen by Cruyff’s Dream Team for their concentrations prior to the major European games and where Pep Guardiola began his coaching career during his first stage as trainer of Barça B.
El Montanyà has two 11-a-side pitches, one natural grass pitch and one artificial, as well as a multi-purpose indoor sports arena where campus attendees can practice indoor football, basketball, handball and volleyball. The venue also has two swimming pools and tennis and paddle-tennis courts.
El Montanyà also features a conference room which will be host to conferences and talks and where the Wembley Final will be shown. The historic match took place is 1992, at a time when our younger footballers hadn’t even been born.
The Campus Media Base is designed for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 16, who receive comprehensive training, not only of a technical nature but also in life skills, fostering healthy community-shared experience among participants.
There are two different session for the Campus: in 2017, Week 1 between July 2 - 8 and Week 2 between July 9 - 15.
Each session is scheduled to begin on the Sunday evening at 5pm at the facilities in Montanyà.
An open family day is held on the last day of each session so that family members of participants can join in.
Parents interested in staying at the Hotel Montanyà can enjoy exclusive discount rates.
Participants in the Campus Media Base are given two Nike T-shirts and a pair of shorts, while participants can win one of the many gifts from our professional sportsmen and women to be raffled during the camp.
The methodology used for the Campus Media Base Sports is all-encompassing, although methods will prioritize the varying aspects of football skills and techniques. Training sessions are dynamic, constantly involving ball-work and tailored to the specific qualities of each participant.
There are two training sessions daily, 7-a-side football competitions and other disciplines such as 3-a-side football and footvolley matches, not to mention a range of other sporting activities including swimming-pool activities, alternative sports, and night-time olympic challenge, to mention a few.
Fran Sánchez, The Sports Director of Media Base Sports and ex-coach of the FC Barcelona youth teams for more than fifteen years, as well as the coach of the Bahraini national team and assistant to Òscar Garcia in Maccabi Tel Aviv, was the coaching director of 1st Campus Media Base. After the Campus, Fran Sánchez signed as a new coach of FC Barcelona women team.
